CURRENT PROJECTS: (1) IYRE (Improve Your Resource Efficiency) Business Link in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon and Somerset Forge’s role: Advising Consultants to participating businesses The improving your resource efficiency (IYRE) service is an EU-funded programme aimed at SMEs aspiring to make environmental efficiency improvements and boost their profits. The environmental service offers a variety of specialist support including over the phone or online advice, site visits, 3rd party referrals, a range of events and workshops and valuable online information and tools.

(2) South West Agricultural Resource Management (SWARM) initiative. Forge’s role: Specialist Advisors to participating businesses The programme is designed to help farmers to manage resources more efficiently, and make their businesses more profitable, resilient and environmentally-friendly, the initiative is funded through the Rural Development Programme for England. There are 3 linked strands: · Soils for Profit (S4P) – professional advice on making best use of resources such as soils, manures, nutrients; · Resource Efficiency for Farmers (R4F) – professional advice on best managing resources such as energy, water, air and non-organic wastes (e.g. plastics); · A small capital grant scheme to help implement relevant actions identified in the advice stages. The initiative offers FREE advice on resource management to farmers and growers - PLUS grants of up to £10,000 for those who undertake capital works identified through the initiative. Eligibility – Quick Guide: are you a farmer or horticultural business? Is your annual turnover more than £20,000? If you have answered yes to both of these questions then you are eligible in principle for SWARM support and a FREE site assessment and resource review. PREVIOUS PROJECTS To demonstrate Forge’s relevant experience across a range of issues and project types, a number of Project Examples have been selected from the projects that Forge has delivered, and these are set out below.Example 1: Specialist Advisor – ‘Envirowise’ - a National Programme funded by DEFRA to assist businesses with resource efficiency advice and assistance
Providing advice on a national Helpline, and visiting businesses; chiefly to identify resource efficiency opportunities within the process flow. Other advice included ISO 14001, pollution potential, and various legal compliance issues as appropriate.
Example 2: South West Regional Development Agency - Envision SW Project
Providing dedicated mentoring support to 52 South West businesses to improve their resource efficiency and cut costs, and included advice on the implementation of ISO 14001. The methodology involved individual site visits where reviews of current practices were carried out and subsequent practical recommendations for improvements were put forward.
Example 3: Envirowise SW
On behalf of Envirowise, devised and delivered materials on resource efficiency to SW business support organisations, including: Duchy College; SW Bakeries; Plymouth Resource Efficiency Club, and Somerset County Council.
Example 4: ‘Easy Money’ Project - AEA technology, Didcot, Oxon
Completed a research project providing resource efficiency and energy savings advice to 107 South East small retailers in a variety of retail environments, e.g. small towns, village high streets, inner cities, shopping centres and suburbs.
Example 5: AEA Technology SW Regional Marketing
Contacted over 400 companies to further their interest in Envirowise products and services, and to establish their requirements in terms of appropriate advice and assistance to improve their environmental performance.
Example 6: The 123 Project, University of East London (UEL), Stratford, London
Consultant to UEL to market and deliver practical resource efficiency assistance to 78 east London SMEs, including implementing ISO 14001. This was done as part of a larger, regional project, requiring liaison and partnership with other deliverers and business support organisations.
Example 7: Business Link Kent, King’s Hill, West Malling, Kent
Developed and delivered a training programme in Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14001 for BLK clients.
Example 8: ‘Envirowise’ programme – AEA technology, Didcot, Oxon 2002-3
Technical consultant role: Solely researched modern litho printing technology and produced the material for the ‘Envirowise’ Industry Guide GG391 “How to Convert to Waterless Printing”
